Truefire Damon Fowler’s Practice Sessions: Blues Slide Tutorial
Learn and Practice Key Blues Slide Moves with Interactive Practice Sessions
The expressive, vocal-like qualities of electric slide guitar is ideal for crafting compelling, memorable blues solos. Damon Fowler’s Blues Slide edition of Practice Sessions is focused on enhancing your electric slide technique and improvisational approaches by helping you develop a solid command of a versatile vocabulary of slide blues licks and phrases that can be used over 12-bar blues changes. In fact, many of them can be repeated over an entire 12-bar blues progression!
” This format is really a game changer for learning slide guitar and I really hope you enjoy picking up some of my go-to slide licks. I designed everything in this course to be super accessible for players that aren’t yet veteran slide players, but even for those of you that are — I think you’re going to enjoy working through this material and trading back and forth with me over the tracks.
We’ll start out with a classic Elmore James style slide lick. Then we’ll hone in on our pitch control and a singing tone with a Duane Allman-style phrase. The third session focuses on a great way to use open major chord tunings over minor chords. We’ll work on some Texas style double-stop slide licks.
We’ll look at some single string, expressive vocal lines. We’ll also study major pentatonic moves over a funky second line groove inspired by The Meters and some tasty repeating, Chicago style double stop licks. And in our final practice session, we’ll focus on a solo electric, deep fingerstyle groove to help you work on combining fingered notes with the slide on your left hand.”
You’ll play your way through this hands-on course, which focuses on eight soloing concepts. What makes this format really special is how you’ll get these approaches firmly under your fingers — you’ll practice each of the concepts together with Damon, in a series of interactive practice sessions.
Damon will kick off each study with a breakdown of the key concept, technique, or underlying approach and then he’ll perform the move over a backing track to give you a feel for how it sits in the rhythm section.
You’ll cap off each blues slide study together with a hands-on practice session. Damon will roll the track and you’ll trade back and forth as Damon guides you through the core examples followed by several variations and embellishments. Working regularly with these “practice sessions” is the key to having command of all 8 blues soloing approaches.
Damon will explain and demonstrate all of the key concepts and approaches along the way. You’ll get standard notation and tabs for all of the performance studies.
Plus, you’ll be able to use TrueFire’s learning tools to sync the tab and notation to the video lesson. You can also loop or slow down the videos so that you can work with the lessons at your own pace. All of the backing tracks are included to work with on your own as well.
